Debenhams Beauty Club Introduction and Essential Tools -- Part 1

Some time has past between posts on STYLIST IN THE CITY , but that does not mean I have been hiding in my make-up bag. Actually quite the opposite.
Here is the start of some how to make-up tips I filmed with beauty blogger Sarah Sian for Debenhams.
Stay tuned each week for continuous tips.

fabulous and stylist

It has been a long time since posting for my blog STYLIST IN THE CITY after disappointment in Paris, but hey life goes on. So this week two editorials have come out,  one for FABULOUS magazine under my pseudonym ANTHONY BLAKE, and the other for STYLIST magazine. So I thought it time to get back on the hair and make-up wagon and plod on. There is much to look forward too, so this STYLIST IN THE CITY is far from finished. Stay tuned, and stay fabulous!

CAVALLI

Last show in Milan was for ROBERTO CAVALLI, and it sure was hot!
Of course it was a fast and furious affair again with most models coming in 45 mins before show time, so  we had to be well prepared to get them finished, which we did, because we always do.
The hair was pure sex with length added and some messy height at the crown, top that off with a velvety brown smokey eye from PAT McGRATH, and you have a look that every woman wants to be.
There was lots of fur flying on the catwalk, and I had a sneaky look. Loved it.
Now in Paris waiting for confirmation on shows. Bring it on.

VERSACE AND ALBERTA FERRETTI

VERSACE show tonight was a glamourous affair, as you would expect. With most of the girls coming in closer to show time, having to do high maintenance hair created a hair frenzy. With GUIDO directing hair and PAT McGRATH directing make-up you have the king and queen taking the reins again, with no disappointment. Was a little hard to take pics but DONATELLA was there back stage along with an appearance from ANNA WINTOUR,  making it feel complete.
Earlier in the day was ALBERTA FERRITTI, and with the look being so simple all we had to do was prep the hair. GUIDO then completed every single model with his signature style that gave a continuity that no one can re-create, pure genius.  Again ANNA WINTOUR made an appearance backstage complementing the collection before it was shown, felt like I was in the SEPTEMBER ISSUE. Priceless.

MILANO, PRADA IN HEAVEN

All I can say is WOW WOW WOW!. First show for Milan and it was Prada, and all I can say is I have died and gone to Prada heaven!
Our call time was 7 hours before the show, and upon entering the concrete fortress that is the Prada head quarters you enter a whole new world.
With 40 top models to get ready with strong strong MAD MEN inspired hair to create, 7 hours is just enough. Firstly hairstylist GUIDO is a genius, teaming that with PAT McGRATH directing make-up and you are in fashion heaven.
Australian model MIRANDA KERR was working the runway and was nice to see a face from the past who has done so well for herself.
My good friend hairstylist KENNETH STODART and I enjoyed a MAD MEN inspired drink at the end of the show for a well deserved reward, that being straight liquor, and it went down a treat.
All I can say is I have never experienced  anything like it, and I can not wait for more.
See you tomorrow for more fashion highs, you can not go any higher!. x

ISSA

The last show for London was ISSA, and it sure was a crazy one to finish on. A bit more of a do, and complete manic craziness to add to the flavour.
Hair directed by MALCOM EDWARDS and make-up by PAT McGRATH made sure that the look was strong.
Now packing my bags for Milan where things really start to heat up.
See you there!

BERARDI

The hair was nice and simple for BERARDI this morning, but with clothes this stunning why would you need anything else but simplicity.
A nice undone twisted pony tail, tied with a black ribbon. Set of with a dark red/violet glossy lip the look was pure sophistication. Bravo Berardi!

AQUASCUTUM

The hair for AQUASCUTUM was very sexy, disheveled and undone. With PAT McGRATH directing make-up pulling out the old bleached eyebrow the look was hot!
AQUASCUTUM didn't mess about, with a lot of the big girls modeling it felt like being on a show in Paris. And the clothes were super hot.
Was a bit harder to sneak some pictures at the show due to it all coming together at the last minute. With two models arriving as the girls were lining up, having just been on an AMERICAN VOGUE shoot, hair and make-up had to be done in 3 minutes. Was a classic moment in the world of shows, and somehow we pulled it together. Luckily the hair was so simple, but I don't think the girls had time to have their brows lightened, now that would be high fashion magic.

MATTHEW WILLIAMSON

Working on the MATTHEW WILLIAMSON show this morning was an easy affair, the hair was a very simple textured pulled back chignon style. The only craziness was having to wash nearly every single models hair before hand, as a heavy greasy gloss had been used on the previous show.
MALCON EDWARDS was directing hair again, and at one point while assisting him holding up sections of hair I didn't even realize he was actually doing SIENNA MILLERS hair. Of course. Model ABBY LEE was also working the runway for WILLIAMSON.

KINDER

Tensions were high today getting the hair finished for the KINDER show, under direction from hair guru MALCOM EDWARDS.
The hair it self was simple to do, but having to finish the look with black hairspray complete with middle part with minutes to go before the show started kept the pressure on.
The look was very strong, almost carton like, and with make-up directed by PAT McGRATH, it was a sure winner.
You could imagine the fear of getting black spray all over the make-up, but with good prep work all went smoothly.
Having to wash the spray out of the models hair afterwards in the hand basins of the ladies toilets was a whole other story.
Great fun and a fantastic strong look.

ASHLEY ISHAM

London Fashion Week kicked off today, and so begins all the craziness.
From London to Milan and Paris we start our journey with the ASHLEY ISHAM show. It was a good show to start working on as the hair was quite easy to do, and got me warmed up for the next three weeks.
The inspiration was from the movie FLASH GORDON, and as you can see hair and make-up has a very 80's feel. A bit of a side roll, it is bridal gone wrong but so right.
The hair area was not to tense but of course a few large creative ego's about to add some spice to the atmosphere.
An early start in the morning after doing some prep work this evening for tomorrows show, so stay tuned.
Bring it on!

BEAUTY MUSE OF THE DAY

The amazing JULIANNE MOORE is todays beauty muse, and this needs no explanation. At 49 she gives the other MOORE  a run for her money, and unlike Demi, Julianne is still making great movies.
A SINGLE MAN is out this week also directed by TOM FORD it is sure to be extraordinary.
Another fabulous movie to experience is SAVAGE GRACE, where Julianne was flawlessly styled, a real treat for the eyes.
With her amazing auburn hair and porcelain skin this is a look that is never out of style. Showing that somethings really do get better with age, Julianne Moore we salute you. x

RED CAMERA IS THE FUTURE?

Worked with photographer MATT EADES yesterday filming a test using RED CAMERA. This is apparently going to be the future of fashion photography and is already being used by big fashion houses for campaigns.
This was my first time seeing the capabilities that the camera offers and I have to admit I was impressed.
Will keep you posted with some test pictures when I finally get them, (could be a while) so i took a few of my own in the meantime.
Lots of hair and fabric blowing, caught on crystal clear digital film.

DAMIAN GAROZZO FROM PARIS WITH LOVE

The usually sweet and innocent Norwegian beauty Frida Gustavsson heats up this
months Numéro in a red-blooded series shot by Miguel Reveriego.
There is a certain kind of 'heat' that radiates out of the pages in Miguel's
stories; his were always the pictures I'd rip out as keepers to stick on my wall!
This series is no exception.. Completely drenched in Mediterranean sensuality
and what looks to literally be sunlight streaming in and catching the contours
of Frida's body.
The eyes shimmering a creamy gold, the lips a sharp metallic blood red, it
doesn't get much hotter than this!
PS: Just found out Frida is 16, check out her
polaroids! http://models.com/models/frida-gustavsson
Scary it is the power of makeup and styling!!! ;)
Until next time,
Damian x

ONE TO WATCH

Worked with model TOKUMBO @ MODELS 1 the other day, and she was so sweet.
She looked amazing and was great to watch her work. Having just shot for VOGUE with BAILEY (which one I can't remember, so will leave it at that) , So is definitely one to watch out for.
TOKUMBO had great features to work with and amazing texture skin. Black skin is  great to play on, as things work so differently then with caucasian skin. Great fun. Even though the look is natural and tonal, she still looks fierce.

NUDE

Am loving the spring/summer nude colours from CHANEL at the moment, have been trying all of them and each one is beautiful and so now. Go out and grab a colour any colour if you can, you will love it.

ON TREND

Had to re-create spring/summer trends this week shooting for THE SUNDAY TIMES STYLE magazine. Natalie the stylist even asked for LOUIS VUITTON hair from the show, and having worked on it I knew it well. Staying up till 4 in the morning making afro wigs is not something easy to forget.
I decided to go for something a little more wearable for the shoot and even took the make-up style from the show and made it more accessible . (Thanks Pat)
If you look closely at the nails I have used CHANEL hard to get nail colour PARTICULI'ERE', how on trend is that!
MAKE UP-
Coat top and bottom lashes using GIVENCHY PHENOMEN EYES MASCARA.
On the lids and under eyes use GIVENCHY SHADOW SHOW 06 TRENDY KAKI
Use an orange toned bronzer high on the checks and sweep it around under the eyes to get a fresh spring look. Keep the lips nude and moist.
HAIR-
Set the front few inches of hair around the hair-line using U pins, taking small sections and then clamping using straightners to heat. Pull the rest of your hair back into a tight bun, and when hair in U pins has cooled, remove them and brush through. Pull the frizz back onto the bun and secure with pins.

YOU GOT THE LOVE

Hair and Make-up for Florence Welch for Stella magazine.
This is the third time I have worked with Florence, and she is always so sweet.
I was lucky enough to still have the hairpieces I used on the 'you got the love video', so that was handy. She looks fantastic here, and so does her hair!

LOOK OF THE DAY

Todays look is from gorgeous model ADRIENN DENSCI @ ELITE who comes from Poland.
I love how easy you can go from a fresh daytime look to a strong dramatic evening look by simply darkening the eyes and putting the hair up.
Try using a dark violet colour instead of black when creating the smokey eye for night. GORGIO ARMANI SMOOTH SILK EYE PENCIL in eggplant was used here to give a modern violet look.
And when putting your hair up try a quiff by back brushing then pushing your hair forward and bringing it back on it self. Just remember to keep messy rather than neat.

INSTYLE BEAUTY AWARDS

Over the past few years I have had the pleasure of being on the panel of experts to vote for INSTYLE'S 100 BEST BEAUTY BUYS.
The most fabulous thing about this is all the free make-up and beauty creams you get sent in hope that you may vote for them, which can turn any product into a best seller.
I try to be as honest as I can when judging and this year two products I voted for won their category, and I have given a quote for each which was published in the supplement. (see above)
At the awards I got very drunk with fellow hair and make-up artists  celebrating the pure beauty of it all along with the endless supply of champagne.
RUBY AND MILLIE have since sent me a whole lot of new brushes to use, which is in great timing as I have just recently lost my brush kit. So thank you RUBY HAMMER, my drunk mention to you of my situation certainly wasn't lost, your truly fabulous!

PRODUCT OF THE DAY

L'OREAL PLAY BALL TEXTURE TONIC is always in my kit bag ready for use on any hair. Gives great texture and volume to hair with out feeling weighed down and sticky. Really great for when roots of the hair are a little greasy as it dries it out, and is perfect for fine hair. Simply spray into the roots of dry or damp hair then blast with a hot dryer. Instant lift! The bottle shape is a little bit interesting too.

LOOK OF THE DAY

Todays look comes courtesy from exotic and sweet model LIZZY BURDEN @ ELITE.
An easy smokey eye, pale lip and textured hair. (The Smokey eye and Textured hair are the focus)
MAKE-UP: Line the inside of the eye with URBAN DECAY EYELINER in black, do this several times and smudge in by squeezing the eyes tightly. Then line the outside of the eyes and smudge using small smudging brush. Keep the lids bare for a more young look. Curl lashes and apply black mascara.
HAIR: To get great texture spray in LOREAL PLAY BALL TEXTURE TONIC all through the hair and dry in. Then take sections of hair and lightly back brush from roots to ends skimming all over the hair. Blast each section of hair with hot dryer to set. Use you fingers to pull out back brushing leaving hair with a wild and free texture.
This technique is particularly good for anyone with fine hair giving instant volume.
The look is a little bit rock, young, fun and good for anyone under 60! x

WINDOW SHOPPING FOR WIGS

Walking home form work last night the new window display at Liberty made me stop in my tracks. Liberty do have a habit of  really interesting window displays and these do not disappoint. It has been a long time since I have seen such impressive wig work, what lucky mannequin's you are. I have to say who ever was responsible snaps to you. It was like looking at a really fabulous editorial hair story. If you are in town go check it out, quite inspiring.
